HUNTER: Elderly woman tried to get peace bond and was slain next day

Manitoba Justice of the Peace Weldon Klassen thought that, yes, mediation was the way to go.

He was addressing the concerns of Gladys Bellamy, 80, who asked for the peace bond against Jose Francisco Raulino, 74.

The day after — last Tuesday — cops responded to a Winnipeg apartment complex around 11:30 p.m. At the scene, they discovered a woman with fatal injuries. That woman was Gladys Bellamy.

Slain the next day

And her alleged killer? Jose Francisco Raulino. He is now charged with second-degree murder.

At the peace bond hearing, JP Klassens asked if Bellamy had spoken with mediation services. She said “no,” as per CTV News.

Klassen warmed to his topic: “Well, that’s a good idea. I recommend everybody start with mediation. And usually, it’s a situation where mediation can find a solution that makes everybody feel heard and happy and safe as much as possible. Doesn’t always work, but it’s usually the best way to go.”

The pair had been condo neighbours for 14 years. Two other residents were seeking peace bonds against Raulino and one wasn’t buying mediation.

She asked: “Can we speak to this right now?”

The JP sniffed: “No, you’re going to talk to mediation services.” Was there a choice?  “Yeah, I’m recommending it. If you go against that, it’s not probably a good idea.”

Will teen killer be back?

The kid was just 15 when four people were massacred inside a home in Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, about 95 km east of Regina, early on Feb. 4, 2025.

Dead were Terry Jack, 51, Tracey Hotomani, 34, Shauna Fay, 47, and Sheldon Quewezance, 44. The quartet had all been shot to death. Now 17, the boy pleaded guilty to four counts of manslaughter in February. So, whatever could that mean?

Well, he was hammered with the maximum youth sentence for his role: Two years in custody plus one year supervision. Easy peasy, nice and easy.

“This case involves the chilling and horrific example of the irreversibly tragic consequences which result in firearms combined with drugs and alcohol,” Justice James Korpan told the young killer, one of four people charged.

Court heard a whopping 27 victim impact statements, most delivered through tears and sobs.

“This was not a single traumatic event that happened and that people will now have to get past,” Korpan said. “Rather, it is a horror which is relived every day. The consequences [for the teen killer] are the most severe imaginable. Accordingly, the most severe sentence is warranted,” he said.

Two years.

At least he didn’t get credit for pre-trial custody. But, he will likely be back. Canada waits.

Is this a great country or what?

Ayanle Hassan Ali is doing what many devout Muslims do: He’s planned a pilgrimidge to Mecca. But wait … do I hear naysayers?

The problem is that on March 14, 2016, “Ali entered the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre in Toronto and immediately attacked the corporal who was seated at the entrance. Mr. Ali repeatedly punched the corporal in the head, and then took a large kitchen knife from a folder he was carrying and lunged at the corporal, slashing and stabbing at him with the knife, causing a three-inch gash to the corporal’s arm.”

‘Significant threat to public safety’

He was found not criminally responsible and “continues to pose a significant threat to public safety.” But gosh, what’s an Ontario Review Board (ORB) to do? You celebrate this violent lunatic.

And then, it’s all great. Studying the Koran, mosque weekly, prayers five times a day.

“He is hopeful he will be able to travel to Somalia over the upcoming reporting year for an introductory meeting with the woman,” the in love with love ORB gushed.
